Becoming a Solution Focused Worker

Solution focused techniques are a set of skills aimed at helping people with mental health difficulties move towards positive change. The techniques place the focus on strengths and resources, not disorder and disability.
Using solution focused techniques helps to identify what already works and builds on this. It is a way of working that is solution, not problem, focused.
The techniques are easy to learn and are applicable when working with individuals and families. This two-day course will give you an opportunity to observe and practise the main techniques in solution focused work.



To introduce you to solution focused techniques and give you the skills to put them into practice.

PowerPoint presentation, group work and role-play.


Learning outcomes

At the end of the course you will have:
Gained understanding about the key assumptions and theories informing solution focused work.
Increased awareness of the main techniques associated with solution focused practice.
Developed skills in observation and practice of solution focused techniques.


Who should attend?

This two-day course is for frontline staff working with young people under 18 with mental health difficulties.
The course is not suitable if you have already attended training in solution focused practice.

You must be available to attend both days of this course.
Priority will be given to people working in Fife.
